NDIS Physiotherapy: A Comprehensive Guide
What is NDIS Physiotherapy?
What is NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a new way of providing supports for people with disability, injury or illness. NDIS gives you the opportunity to take control and responsibility for your own support needs. It aims to give you more choice and control by tailoring packages of support that are right for you.
Does NDIS fund physiotherapy?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is in charge of funding allied health and other therapy services related to a person’s disability.
These therapies are covered by the National Disability Insurance Scheme’s ‘Capacity Building’ support budget.
Allied health services such as exercise physiology, occupational therapy, and physiotherapy are covered by your NDIS Capacity Building Supports budget under the ‘Improved Health and Wellbeing’ and/or ‘Improved Daily Living’ categories.
These allied health support services are available if you have funds allocated to these categories. As such, physiotherapy services are funded by the NDIS.

How does physiotherapy help in chronic care?
Physiotherapists can help manage pain/symptoms associated with your disability and improve function. As such, physiotherapy can help you:
- Get stronger
- Improve range of motion
- Become more mobile
- Increase independence
- Manage pain
- Reduce falls
- Improve your quality of life
Physiotherapy rehabilitation is an essential part of treatment for any individual with a disability. The goal of physiotherapy rehabilitation is to improve the patient’s quality of life by increasing their independence and ability to perform everyday tasks. Physiotherapists work with patients to develop individualized treatment plans that can include exercises, stretches, and massage therapy. Treatment may also focus on improving posture, balance, and coordination. In cases of chronic disability, physiotherapy can help to manage pain and discomfort and prevent further health complications.
